Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): Model how to identify story elements by using a familiar story, such as Little Red Riding Hood, to explain each story element. As a whole class, complete the Kidspiration map (file 2) by reaching a consensus on each element of the story. |
Lesson: Step 1: Divide the students into cooperative groups of 3-5 students.Step 2: Have the groups read the narrative chosen by the teacher. Step 3: Assign leaders for each story element and distribute leader cards (file 1) for each group. Step 4: Have groups cooperatively work to complete the story map in Kidspiration 2 (file 2). Each leader should follow the 5-step process on their leader card for each story element. Step 5: As a whole class, review each story element having each group report their consenus to create a class story map using the multimedia computer and TV.

Extension: 1. Groups can use their story map to create a summary of the story.2. Groups can use their story map to write questions about their story for the class to answer.
