Unit/Lesson Overview: Students will compare and contrast Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with What Makes Weather using a Venn diagram? Students will discuss weather changes and possible patterns that they observe as well as appropriate clothing to wear as weather changes.

Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): Read aloud Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Discuss the weather in the book. |
Lesson: Step 1: Introduce the new vocabulary for the unit on Weather using the Guess the Covered Word template called Weather(file 2).Step 2: Read What Makes Weather, and have the class discuss weather and the changes from day to day. Discuss the repeating pattern of weather. Step 3: Discuss the differences between a fiction book and a nonfiction book. Step 4: Take the class to the lab and have them open Kidspiration and complete a Venn diagram (found under the More section) comparing and contrasting the books Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and What Makes Weather. Step 5: Have the students save their work and print. An example of the Venn diagram can be found in File 1,Exp_of_Compare_Contrast1.kid.

Extension: Save the FOSS link (Internet Link 1) where the students have access. Follow the link and choose the unit Air and Weather. The bear the students will dress according to the weather on the thermometer is under "What's the Weather" on the left.
