Accommodations: Students will be responsible for pictures of cultural groups during the specified time periods or maps during the same periods instead of having to do both. |
| Procedures |
Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): Display and discuss some pictures of present day Mexico using the cultural groups as a basis for the pictures. |
Lesson: Have the student make a title slide that includes their heading.
Have each student determine what cultural group they want to find pictures on:
1. Architecture (public or family)
2. Art
3. Customs
4. Economics
5. Technology
Searching the internet, the student will find a picture relating to the cultural group chosen from each of the following time periods:
1. Aztec
2. Spanish Colonial
3. 1810-1950
4. 1951-2004
Have the students copy the images into MS Paint and have them stamp the Url (web address) onto the picture and save the picture into their personal directory on the school server. The students will then insert the pictures, each on their own slide and describe the image, explain how the concept of the image changed from the previous time period, and theorize as to why the student thinks the picture changed (cause).
Have the students do the same thing for a map from each time period:
Find a map from each time period
Stamp the url and save to their personal directory
Have the map from each time period appear on a separate slide describing the map, how it changed from the previous time period, and theorize why it changed from the previous time period.
|
Reteach: Display and discuss some pictures from the internet using the cultural group least utilized by the students during all 4 time periods.
|
Extension: Students will present their PowerPoint to class.
|
Guiding Questions: Describe this picture and why you find it interesting? How did the picture change from the previous time period?
|
Summary Questions: What conclusions can you make about why the pictures you've found have changed from the previous time period?
|
Reflection: Did students gain insight into the culture of Mexico? Were students' technological skills evident in the completed product?
