Step 3: Show the students the mystery clues on Slide 6. Have students guess what the mystery object is.
Step 4: Read the directions to the students that are found on Slide 7. Use Slide 8 and 9 for examples of how their page can look. Students will choose a "mystery object" that they want to describe using similes.
Step 5: Have students open up My Mystery Object (file 2).
Step 6: The students will write the name of their mystery object in the main circle and then write their clues in each bubble. Students will use either like or as depending on the word that connects the center circle with the outer circle. The last clue they can choose to use either like or as.
Step 7: Students will click on the star icon at the top to add their name.
Step 8: Students will then go to the writing view and click on the publish button on the far right (green arrow). The student's mystery object and clues will now show up in Microsoft Word. Have students erase the name of their mystery object. Students will then print their clues.
Step 9: Students can then stand in front of the class and read their clues. Have the class guess what the mystery object is and have them identify the similes used.
Step 10: Have students exchange their Mystery Object papers. Use a highlighter to highlight the similes.
