Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): Read aloud one of the books suggested under Supplementary Resources and have the class find the metaphors in the book. |
Lesson: Step 1: Show the students the metaphors_1st PowerPoint (file 1). Discuss the meaning of each metaphor.Step 2: Save the metaphor_match Kidspiration template (file 2) to the student server. Step 3: In the lab, have the students open the metaphor_match Kidspiration template (file 2) and complete it individually or with a partner. Step 4: Have students save their work and print.

Reteach: To be determined by teacher based on student needs

Extension: Have students create their own scenario where one of the metaphors learned would be appropriate to use. Have them present their scenario to the class.

Guiding Questions: How could you explain the meaning of a metaphor to a friend?What is your favorite metaphor and why?

Summary Questions: What questions do you have about metaphors? What would be a good situation to use a metaphor? What do metaphors do to our speaking and writing?
