Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): Begin by reading Quick as a Cricket by Audrey Wood pointing out the similes as you read each page. |
Lesson: Step 1: Save the Cricket.ppt template (File 1) to the Student Shared directory.Step 2: Model with your students how to open the saved Cricket PowerPoint, navigate slide to slide and enter text. Step 3:Have the students enter a describing word and an animal on each of the slides (2-5). To do this, have the students click after the dots and backspace, then they begin typing the words they want. Step 4: Model how to print these slides by going to File/Print and change the handouts selection to 2 per page. Have the students fold horizontally between slides. Stack and staple on top. Step 5: Have the students add illustrations and make a book.

|
Extension: 1. Have the students add clipart to their slides.2. A matching game can be made using Link 1, Quick as a Cricket pictures and File 2 animal word cards. A sentence strip could be made for the sentence pattern in Quick as a Cricket. This sentence strip as well as the word cards and pictures could be placed in a pocket chart for a center activity. 3. Link 3, Quick as a Cricket trivia could be used as a whole class activity in order to review the book.
