Introductory Activity (Warm-Up): The teacher reflects on patterns by asking the following questions...What is a pattern? Who can show me a pattern? Are there patterns in our words? Are there patterns in nature, etc.? Open up the Kidspiration template (file 1) and explain all needed tools in Kidspiration and the different activities that the students need to complete. |
Lesson: In the 1st section, the students find pictures from the symbol palette that rhyme with the ending sounds they see.In the second section, the students transfer their knowledge by clicking and dragging real world pictures from the symbol palette which contain patterns into the box. The third section has the students completing an AB or ABC pattern on their own using pictures from the symbol palette.

Reteach: To be determined by the teacher based on student needs

Extension: The teacher could have the students use the pattern blocks at the same time.After initial introduction, the activity could be repeated on a classroom computer in a center. Students could start a blank Kidspiration document and create their own pattern activity.
